Springisatimewhenallthecreaturesawakenaftertheirlongwintersleep,andbirds,sweetharbingersofspring,exerttheirvoiceandgiveusthegiftoftheirsong.Amurmuringbrook’sice-boundbodymeltsgraduallyunderspringbreeze.Thetreesputforthbudsandleaves.Grassshylybreaksthroughthesoil,itspalegreengivingoffthearomaoftheearth.Farmerssowseeds,flowersbloomallaround,andthisallcomestogetherinthemostamazingpaletteofcolors.Spring–ahopefulseason;Nature-atitsbest!

Summer,thetransformerofspring,isamoredynamicseason.Theweatherwarms,theskiesclearoftheclouds,theSunshinesfiercely.Summerisastageforallthoseflyinginthesky,runningontheland,swimminginthewater,toshowtheirboundlessenergyandvitality.Look,thegardenisacarnivalofcolors.Strollthroughitslowly.Stopbythelotuspool,gently,takinginthescents,breathingindeeplythelightyetsweetairaroundyou,quietly,feastingontheflirtatiouslotusflowersdancinginthewind,infullbloom.Hearthecicadassinginghappily,spythebeesworkingvigorously…soakupthegloryofthisseason!

Autumn.Themostbeautifulseason,asinglefallingleafheraldsitscoming.Swallowsmigratesouth,farmersbusilyharvesttheircrops;bunchesofgrapesswinginthewind;theoverpoweringfragranceofrice,ripegrinsandfillstheair;full-ripenedgrainandglitteringcornfield,fillstheair.Farmersaresqueezingthejuice,pickingthecotton,shearingtherice,andtheentirefieldisbustlingaboutwiththeabundanceoftheharvestscenery,for,Fallisaseasonofharvest!

WhenZeusordersthesuccessionofdayandnight,theseasonschangeandcomeaboutathiscommand-spring,summer,autumn,winter-theyareallasongoflife,forthehopeoftomorrow.However,formostpeople,winterisfrigidandboring,noflowersgrow,mountainsarecoveredinmercilesssnow,massesoficechokeupriversandstreams.Nomorequarriesintheforest,onlyastingingwindsweepingthroughthewoods.

Thatiswinter;itdoesnothavespring’svigor,summer’sintenseheatorautumn’shappinessofabighaul.Yetwithoutit,onecannothaveatrueandwholesomeexperienceofthelifeoffourseasons.Snow,spreadingitsblindingcoverofwhitelacedownonearth,thepurest,softest,virginsnow,isatrulyuniquesceneinwinter.Hills,grass,roofs,allwithamantleofsnow,depictsamomentwhentheworldgloatsinitspurity.Thesnowcoversthefieldswithawhitecloak,whileunderneath,energyisstoredforthenextspringtocome.

Thatiswinter-itshardworkisallaboutgreetingthenextnewbuddinglife.Likewise,inourownlife,everyonehasthetimeofwinter,whetheritlastsasshortasoneyear,oraslongasten.Itistheperiodofdesperationformostpeopleandyet,personally,Ilovewinter,especiallythedepthofwinter.Becauseonlyitsdepthcanpresentthetruebeautyofwinterwithitsthicksnow,stingingwindandicysun.

Thewinteroflife–barrenandwithoutspring’sdelicacy,summer’sostentatiousness,orautumn’sarrogance;withoutanyornaments,itquietlyseepsinto,andappearsbeforeus,andweneedtodefeat,withallourmight,allthehardshipsitbringsus.Thatiswinter,thewinterIloveandenjoy,butalsohavetoface.IknowthatifIgiveupwhenitiswinter,Iwillmissoutonthepromiseofmyspring,thebeautyofmysummer,andthefulfillmentofmyfall.
